Donaldson Batons - Est. 2006
As used by John Williams, guest conductor of the Boston POPS, Randal Craig Fleisher, conductor of the Anchorage Symphony, Hudson Valley Philharmonic, and Youngstown Symphony, John Madden, Associate Professor of Music, Associate Director of Bands, and Director of the Spartan Marching Band, and many other conductors and students of music across the country.
David Donaldson is a retired middle school band director and a lifelong woodworker. He received his Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Michigan School of Music. David taught in Anchorage, AK for 28 years and continues to play French Horn in the Anchorage Symphony, Opera, and Concert Chorus orchestra. During the summers while working at the New England Music Camp in Sidney, ME as the Concert Band conductor, David also pursued woodworking in a little shop under a garage apartment. The camp Symphony Band conductor John Madden stopped by the shop to see what David was up to. John suggested that David try his hand at turning conducting batons. Upon returning home to Alaska, David turned his first baton. Since then he has made batons for many aspiring and professional conductors of small ensembles up to symphony orchestras.
David is pleased to welcome his son, Loy Donaldson as a part of Donaldson Batons as of June 2015. Apart from batons we will also be offering baton presentation boxes, unique wooden music stands, music stand shelves, lathe turned pepper mills, baby rattles, wine bottle stoppers and other accessories for the home.
